Become A Curb-Bird.

Recruitment Flyer/ Digital Signage

Poster Version

This digital flyer was created during my internship with University Housing at Illinois State University as a promotional piece for the “Curb Bird” program. Curb Birds are student volunteers who help new students move into their residence halls before the fall semester begins. The goal of this flyer was to generate excitement and encourage current students to sign up for the program.

Visually, the design is anchored by a cartoon version of Reggie Redbird, Illinois State’s mascot, whom I reimagined in a fun, youthful style to appeal to students. I gave Reggie a more animated look, complete with bold outlines, a wide smile, and custom-drawn Chuck Taylor canvas shoes to make him look casual, energetic, and ready to lend a hand. He's surrounded by moving boxes and appears mid-action, leaning forward as if he’s about to help carry items—a playful nod to what the program is all about.

I chose a warm, sunburst background using shades of gold and orange to evoke the summer heat and the energetic vibe of move-in week. Large, bold red text grabs attention with the headline "BECOME A CURB BIRD!" and contrasts well against the warm tones. A bright yellow-orange circle in the top right highlights the event dates (August 12–16), while a QR code centered in an open box directs students to more information. On the right, I listed the perks of volunteering—such as a free T-shirt, early move-in, and a daily meal voucher—to help boost interest.

The flyer was displayed on digital signage across campus, including residence halls and dining centers. I also participated as a Curb Bird during the 2024–2025 school year, giving me firsthand experience with the program I was promoting.

This design was recognized by University Housing with a Bright Idea Award, celebrating the creative direction I took with Reggie’s redesign and my ability to capture the spirit of the event in an engaging, student-friendly way. The playful tone, energetic layout, and school spirit made this project one of my favorites from the internship.
